About the Artist

Lynda Tierney is an artist living and working in Vancouver, Canada. Due to her complete inability to talk about herself with any level of sincerity, she wrote this in the third person. Although her art could be classified as realism, it maintains an illustrative quality—likely influenced by her master’s degree in children’s picturebooks. The subjects of her paintings are often inanimate, but she views each piece as an act of self-portraiture. Her greatest influence is American painter Edward Hopper, and she strives to capture a similar sense of isolation within her work. The idea of “home” is also central to her art, as she analyzes the changing nature of this concept and seeks to evoke feelings of nostalgia and reflection. It’s therefore no surprise that many of her painting commissions are of people’s childhood homes or places that are inextricably tied to key moments in their lives. These are her favourite pieces to take on. Lynda’s work aims to ground viewers in the present moment so that they might gain clarity through stillness.
